Benign is Not Fine: Why this message matters

The term “benign” can minimize the serious, lasting impact of these tumors.

But patients know the truth:

  • The effects don’t end after treatment
  • The challenges are often invisible
  • The support and research are not where they need to be

Benign Is Not Fine is about shifting that narrative—and driving real change for this community.

How the campaign works

Benign Is Not Fine: Rally for Research is a fun, team-based fundraiser happening throughout May in honor of Brain Tumor Awareness Month.

Participants form teams and work together to raise funds, spread awareness, and build momentum—all with simple tools and ongoing support.

Team structure

  • Each team sets a goal of $2,500
  • Teams include a captain, co-captain, and 2–4 members
  • Individual fundraising goals typically range from $250–$500

What to expect

  • May 1: Virtual kickoff to launch the campaign
  • Weekly prompts: Easy text, email, and social ideas to keep fundraising simple
  • Recognition & prizes: Celebrate progress all month long
  • Team shirts & incentives to keep the energy high
  • End-of-month Zoom Rally to celebrate together

Flexible and community-driven

Most of the campaign happens online, making it easy to participate from anywhere.

Teams also have the option to host a “Squad Night” or local meetup—a fun way to connect, take photos, and share your impact.

No experience needed. Just a willingness to show up, share, and make an impact.

Where your fundraising goes

Funds raised through this campaign support the operating fund of the Raymond A. Wood Foundation—fueling the work that makes our mission possible every day.

This includes advancing research, supporting patients and families, building community, and expanding awareness of hypothalamic-pituitary brain tumors.

Your fundraising helps ensure we can continue showing up for this community now and into the future.
