R\u00e9cemment, Jennifer, la m\u00e8re de Lillian, nous a contact\u00e9s parce qu'elle avait du mal \u00e0 contr\u00f4ler son taux de sodium. Elle nous a dit que Lillian \u00e9tait pratiquement confin\u00e9e \u00e0 la maison \u00e0 cause de la surveillance constante.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Le diab\u00e8te insipide (DI) pose un probl\u00e8me aux personnes dont les m\u00e9canismes de la soif sont alt\u00e9r\u00e9s en raison d'une l\u00e9sion chirurgicale de l'hypothalamus : la substitution hormonale destin\u00e9e \u00e0 g\u00e9rer les niveaux de liquide de l'organisme peut \u00eatre tr\u00e8s irr\u00e9guli\u00e8re. Certains jours, le m\u00e9dicament fait son travail et retient les liquides, d'autres jours, il n'agit pas du tout, ce qui signifie que le patient peut perdre des liquides et tomber dans l'hypernatr\u00e9mie ou la d\u00e9shydratation s\u00e9v\u00e8re. Par ailleurs, le m\u00e9dicament peut retenir trop de liquide, ce qui entra\u00eene une baisse trop importante du taux de sodium. Dans les deux cas, il peut en r\u00e9sulter des crises d'\u00e9pilepsie, un coma, voire pire. En l'absence de tests \u00e0 domicile, les hospitalisations peuvent \u00eatre in\u00e9vitables. Jennifer a surveill\u00e9 les entr\u00e9es et les sorties de Lillians pour essayer de g\u00e9rer son taux de sodium afin de le maintenir dans une fourchette acceptable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">\"C'est tr\u00e8s similaire \u00e0 la surveillance 24 heures sur 24 et 7 jours sur 7 qui \u00e9tait effectu\u00e9e \u00e0 l'h\u00f4pital, les tests en moins. Actuellement, j'ajuste ses m\u00e9dicaments \u00e0 l'aveuglette tous les jours, explique Jennifer. \"J'aimerais avoir plus de libert\u00e9 et qu'elle puisse retourner \u00e0 l'\u00e9cole en toute s\u00e9curit\u00e9 pour terminer sa premi\u00e8re ann\u00e9e. Malheureusement, cela ne sera pas possible tant que nous ne saurons pas mieux \u00e0 quoi nous attendre et que nous ne conna\u00eetrons pas la posologie la plus adapt\u00e9e \u00e0 son \u00e9tat de sant\u00e9.\"<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">En plus de la lutte contre le sodium, il y a aussi les visites constantes au laboratoire o\u00f9 ces patients p\u00e9diatriques sont soumis \u00e0 de nombreuses piq\u00fbres d'aiguille pour obtenir la quantit\u00e9 de sang n\u00e9cessaire. Pour les enfants, les prises de sang constantes sont traumatisantes et, bien souvent, leurs veines se gonflent \u00e0 force d'\u00eatre ponctionn\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Selon Jennifer, \"je ne peux pas exprimer \u00e0 quel point nous serions reconnaissants d'avoir la possibilit\u00e9 de v\u00e9rifier ses niveaux ici \u00e0 la maison. Nous pourrions lui \u00e9pargner le stress et la douleur qu'elle ressent lors de ses visites au laboratoire.
