Surmonter les d\u00e9fis d'une tumeur c\u00e9r\u00e9brale rare<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lorsque Aidan, le fils de Kelly, a eu 13 ans, elle a remarqu\u00e9 quelque chose d'inqui\u00e9tant : il n'avait pas grandi depuis trois ans. Se fiant \u00e0 son instinct, elle a demand\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00eatre orient\u00e9e vers un endocrinologue. En f\u00e9vrier 2024, lors de leur premier rendez-vous \u00e0 Penn State Hershey, les m\u00e9decins ont d\u00e9couvert l'origine du probl\u00e8me : les taux d'hormone de croissance d'Aidan \u00e9taient alarmants. Les premi\u00e8res discussions sur le traitement par hormone de croissance ont rapidement conduit \u00e0 d'autres examens, dont une IRM, qui a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 une l\u00e9sion pr\u00e8s de l'hypophyse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En avril 2024, le parcours d'Aidan l'a conduit \u00e0 l'h\u00f4pital pour enfants de Philadelphie (CHOP), o\u00f9 une deuxi\u00e8me IRM a confirm\u00e9 la pr\u00e9sence de la l\u00e9sion. Son neurochirurgien a ordonn\u00e9 des examens suppl\u00e9mentaires, notamment un scanner, une ponction lombaire et des consultations avec des sp\u00e9cialistes. Malgr\u00e9 ces efforts, les r\u00e9sultats n'ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 concluants et l'\u00e9quipe m\u00e9dicale a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 qu'une biopsie \u00e9tait la prochaine \u00e9tape critique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le 19 juillet 2024, deux jours apr\u00e8s son 14e anniversaire, Aidan a subi une op\u00e9ration du cerveau. La biopsie a confirm\u00e9 qu'il souffrait d'un craniopharyngiome, une tumeur c\u00e9r\u00e9brale rare. Les chirurgiens sont parvenus \u00e0 retirer compl\u00e8tement la tumeur, mais le chemin de la gu\u00e9rison est loin d'\u00eatre facile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L'exp\u00e9rience post-op\u00e9ratoire d'Aidan a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9maill\u00e9e de complications. Il a fait une r\u00e9action allergique \u00e0 la morphine, a connu des \u00e9pisodes de d\u00e9lire, a d\u00fb \u00eatre r\u00e9intub\u00e9 et a eu du mal \u00e0 r\u00e9guler sa temp\u00e9rature corporelle. Comme si cela ne suffisait pas, il a subi deux attaques c\u00e9r\u00e9brales au cours de cette p\u00e9riode critique. Malgr\u00e9 tout, l'\u00e9quipe m\u00e9dicale d\u00e9vou\u00e9e du CHOP a travaill\u00e9 sans rel\u00e2che pour le stabiliser. Finalement, Aidan a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9branch\u00e9 du respirateur et son r\u00e9tablissement a commenc\u00e9 pour de bon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une fois rentr\u00e9 chez lui, Aidan a d\u00fb prendre des m\u00e9dicaments tous les jours pour remplacer les hormones que son corps ne pouvait plus produire. Les st\u00e9ro\u00efdes, le DDAVP et la l\u00e9vothyroxine ont fait partie de sa routine et, quelques mois plus tard, il a commenc\u00e9 un traitement \u00e0 l'hormone de croissance. La th\u00e9rapie \u00e0 la testost\u00e9rone a suivi peu apr\u00e8s, l'aidant \u00e0 g\u00e9rer les changements physiques provoqu\u00e9s par son \u00e9tat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aujourd'hui en premi\u00e8re ann\u00e9e de lyc\u00e9e, Aidan s'\u00e9panouit. Il aime skier, jouer aux jeux vid\u00e9o et passer du temps avec sa famille. Plus important encore, sa premi\u00e8re IRM postop\u00e9ratoire n'a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 aucun signe de repousse de la tumeur, ce qui a apport\u00e9 un sentiment de soulagement et d'espoir \u00e0 sa famille.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelly revient sur ce parcours avec une immense gratitude pour les soins exceptionnels qu'Aidan a re\u00e7us au CHOP. \"Nous sommes profond\u00e9ment reconnaissants \u00e0 l'\u00e9quipe m\u00e9dicale pour son expertise et son d\u00e9vouement\", partage-t-elle.
