Aunque est\u00e1bamos agradecidos de que hubiera sobrevivido al tumor y a la operaci\u00f3n, su calidad de vida era mala debido en gran parte a la obesidad hipotal\u00e1mica con hiperfagia, una cruel enfermedad caracterizada por s\u00edntomas como hambre incontrolable y aumento r\u00e1pido de peso. Para evitar que comiera tanto como le dictaba su voraz apetito, recurrimos a encerrar toda la comida bajo llave y vigilarle constantemente para que no robara comida.  Era un estilo de vida agotador, deprimente e insostenible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">En mi desesperaci\u00f3n por encontrar ayuda para el hambre incesante de mi hijo, me puse en contacto con otros padres en grupos de apoyo de Facebook y le\u00ed todo lo que pude en la literatura m\u00e9dica sobre el tema de la obesidad hipotal\u00e1mica, la hiperfagia y el panhipopituitarismo. A pesar de la p\u00e9rdida total de producci\u00f3n hormonal de mi hijo, aprend\u00ed que no todas las hormonas se sustituyen. Para mi sorpresa, entonces aprend\u00ed sobre la oxitocina, una neurohormona cuyas funciones coincid\u00edan estrechamente con los s\u00edntomas no tratados de la obesidad hipotal\u00e1mica de mi hijo.  Debido al s\u00edndrome de Prader Willi (SPW), una enfermedad cong\u00e9nita poco frecuente con muchos rasgos similares al craneofaringioma (incluida la hiperfagia), tambi\u00e9n profundic\u00e9 en la lectura de investigaciones sobre el SPW. A trav\u00e9s de mi investigaci\u00f3n, conoc\u00ed a la Dra. Jennifer Miller, la querida endocrin\u00f3loga pedi\u00e1trica y defensora de los ni\u00f1os con SPW. La Dra. Miller hab\u00eda realizado investigaciones sobre el uso de oxitocina para ni\u00f1os con SPW y despu\u00e9s de contactar con la Dra. Durante el tratamiento experimental, tambi\u00e9n document\u00e9 nuestras experiencias en tiempo real en un blog, Hope for HO.  Aunque no conoc\u00eda el resultado de nuestro experimento, pens\u00e9 que era bastante prometedor cuando experimentamos el HEFY o Half Eaten Frozen Yogurt (ver <a href=\"http:\/\/hopeforho.blogspot.com\/2016\/07\/early-changes-on-oxytocin-theres-first.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">este<\/span><\/a> para m\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n) y me entusiasm\u00f3 la idea de compartir nuestras experiencias con el mundo.  A pesar de los muchos altibajos que experimentamos, el \"experimento de la oxitocina\" fue un \u00e9xito; se normaliz\u00f3 su relaci\u00f3n con la comida, que ya no requer\u00eda encerrar toda la comida, y su peso se redujo a un rango normal.
