Wood proporcion\u00f3 a Henry Cloninger, un ni\u00f1o de 6 a\u00f1os de Godfrey (Illinois), un analizador de sangre para ayudar a su familia a gestionar su atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica en casa. A Henry se le diagnostic\u00f3 un craneofaringioma a los 3 a\u00f1os y se le practic\u00f3 una resecci\u00f3n para extirparle el tumor. Aunque sufr\u00eda los efectos secundarios t\u00edpicos del tratamiento del tumor, Henry se hab\u00eda recuperado de la cirug\u00eda y sus condiciones eran manejables hasta que se encontr\u00f3 un nuevo crecimiento en 2017.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">El pasado mes de enero, Henry se someti\u00f3 a una operaci\u00f3n transfenoidal para extirparle el tumor y tuvo que hacer frente a varias complicaciones posquir\u00fargicas, como fugas de l\u00edquido cefalorraqu\u00eddeo en el lugar de la operaci\u00f3n y una infecci\u00f3n en la derivaci\u00f3n, que hubo que retirar y volver a colocar. Henry, al ser mayor y m\u00e1s consciente de sus circunstancias, tuvo dificultades con la experiencia hospitalaria y padece TEPT y ansiedad, efectos secundarios habituales en los ni\u00f1os sometidos a tratamientos m\u00e9dicos intensivos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">El trauma m\u00e9dico dificult\u00f3 a la familia de Henry el control de su diabetes ins\u00edpida, una enfermedad rara causada por da\u00f1os en la hip\u00f3fisis y\/o el hipot\u00e1lamo debidos al tumor o al tratamiento, en la que el cerebro no segrega la hormona antidiur\u00e9tica, lo que provoca problemas con los niveles de sodio y electrolitos en sangre. Un nivel de sodio extremadamente alto o bajo puede provocar convulsiones, coma o ser mortal. Los niveles de sodio de Henry eran err\u00e1ticos, por lo que era necesario realizar continuas extracciones de sangre para controlar las cifras.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">\"Desde que estamos en casa, nos ha costado mucho ir al laboratorio a hacernos an\u00e1lisis de sangre debido al miedo y la ansiedad extremos de Henry\", dijo Jean Knox, la madre de Henry. \"Estamos seguros de que el i-STAT nos cambiar\u00e1 la vida\".<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Henry ha estado trabajando con asesoramiento, fisioterapia y, lo que es m\u00e1s importante, volviendo a ser un ni\u00f1o.
