Superar los retos de un tumor cerebral raro<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cuando Aidan, el hijo de Kelly, cumpli\u00f3 13 a\u00f1os, not\u00f3 algo preocupante: no hab\u00eda crecido en tres a\u00f1os. Confiando en sus instintos, pidi\u00f3 que le remitieran a un endocrin\u00f3logo. En febrero de 2024, en su primera cita en Penn State Hershey, los m\u00e9dicos descubrieron la ra\u00edz del problema: los niveles de la hormona del crecimiento de Aidan eran alarmantemente bajos. Las conversaciones iniciales sobre el tratamiento con hormona del crecimiento llevaron r\u00e1pidamente a realizar m\u00e1s pruebas, incluida una resonancia magn\u00e9tica, que revel\u00f3 una lesi\u00f3n cerca de la hip\u00f3fisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En abril de 2024, el viaje de Aidan le llev\u00f3 al Hospital Infantil de Filadelfia (CHOP), donde una segunda resonancia magn\u00e9tica confirm\u00f3 la presencia de la lesi\u00f3n. Su neurocirujano orden\u00f3 pruebas adicionales, como una tomograf\u00eda computarizada, una punci\u00f3n lumbar y consultas con especialistas. A pesar de estos esfuerzos, los resultados no fueron concluyentes y el equipo m\u00e9dico determin\u00f3 que el siguiente paso cr\u00edtico era una biopsia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El 19 de julio de 2024, apenas dos d\u00edas despu\u00e9s de cumplir 14 a\u00f1os, Aidan fue operado del cerebro. La biopsia confirm\u00f3 que ten\u00eda un craneofaringioma, un tumor cerebral poco frecuente. Sorprendentemente, los cirujanos pudieron extirpar el tumor por completo, pero el camino hacia la recuperaci\u00f3n no fue nada f\u00e1cil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El postoperatorio de Aidan estuvo plagado de complicaciones. Tuvo una reacci\u00f3n al\u00e9rgica a la morfina, sufri\u00f3 episodios de delirio, hubo que volver a intubarle y tuvo problemas para regular su temperatura corporal. Por si fuera poco, sufri\u00f3 dos infartos cerebrales durante este periodo cr\u00edtico. A pesar de todo, el equipo m\u00e9dico del CHOP trabaj\u00f3 sin descanso para estabilizarlo. Finalmente, le desconectaron el respirador y comenz\u00f3 su recuperaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Una vez en casa, la nueva realidad de Aidan inclu\u00eda medicaci\u00f3n diaria para sustituir las hormonas que su cuerpo ya no pod\u00eda producir. Los esteroides, el DDAVP y la levotiroxina se convirtieron en parte de su rutina y, unos meses m\u00e1s tarde, empez\u00f3 la terapia con hormona del crecimiento. Pronto le sigui\u00f3 la terapia con testosterona, que le ayud\u00f3 a superar los cambios f\u00edsicos provocados por su enfermedad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahora que est\u00e1 en primero de bachillerato, Aidan est\u00e1 prosperando. Le gusta esquiar, jugar a videojuegos y pasar tiempo con su familia. Y lo que es m\u00e1s importante, su primera resonancia magn\u00e9tica tras la operaci\u00f3n no mostr\u00f3 signos de reaparici\u00f3n del tumor, lo que supuso un alivio y una esperanza para su familia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
